Korea Revises Food Labeling Standard

Recently, in order to better promote the understanding of consumers for foods, the Ministry o f Food and Drug Safety of Korea released a notice to revise parts of contents of the Labeling Standards of Food, involving labels of food allergy, typeface of label for food raw material expansion, improvement and expansion of labeling method and object for food allergy, deletion of detailed classification of bread, deletion of content label of beans and nuts.

 

As the “food ID card” the food label affects consumers’ choice of foods, and is an important link of food safety management. In recent years, as food hygiene and safety gains more and more attention from people, Korea has revised relevant standards for multiple times to make detailed regulation for labels of imported foods. Therefore, relevant export enterprise are reminded to: firstly deeply understand specific contents and requirements of food label standards in Korea and make sure they can correctly understand and apply food label; secondly enhance communication with importers, normalize export food label and carry out inspection.
