April 7 is the World Health Day, the World
Health Organization (WHO) officials called on food processing personnel, families
and policy makers to give priority to the food safety.
The United Nations estimates that, more than 2.2 million
people die from diarrhea due to water pollution and food pollution every year. 1.9
million of them are children and 700000 of them are southeast Asians. Achieving
safe food is still a challenge.
WHO director (PoonamKhetrapal Singh) expressed that, bacteria,
viruses, parasites, chemicals and other pollutants in food will cause diarrhea,
cancer and more than 200 kinds of diseases.
In addition, new conditions endangering the food safety include: Climate change and its impact on food production, circulation and consumption, food chain, biological and environmental pollution caused by new technology and new pathogen, and the problem such as antibiotics, drug resistance also threaten food safety.
