Analysis of Annual Report about Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed of European Union of 2014

Aflatoxin Exceeds the Standard for Nut and its Products


In the recent, European Union has issued analysis report of annual report about Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed of 2014. Total times of announcement of RASFF issued by European Union in 2014 amounted to 3157 times including 751 times of alert announcement, 410 times of information tracking announcement, 623 times of information concerning announcement and 1373 times of boundary rejection announcement. Compared with 2013, other announcements have decreased, while alert announcement has increased by 25%.


Announcement reasons mainly cover contents in five aspects:


1. Heavy metal: including arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury;


2. Pathogenic bacterium: including coliform, Salmonella, Listeria monocytogenes, Norwalk virus and Hepatitis A;


3. Biological pollutants: including histamine, tropane alkaloid (TA, there is not statutory quota in European Union, just have acute reference dosage)provided by food safety bureau of European Union);


4. Diet food and supplement component of food;


5. Pesticide residual (435 times, in which 41 times are sources of European Union)


Announcement analysis:


1. Five main hazards announced by European Union are respectively: 782 times for pathogenic bacterium (accounting for 24.77% of total number of times of announcement), 435 times of pesticide residual (accounting for 13.78% of total number of times of announcement), 383 times of mycotoxin (accounting for 12.13% of total number of times of announcement) and 285 times of heavy metal (accounting for 9.03% of total number of times of announcement).


2. Five main products announced by European Union are respectively: 620 times of fruits and vegetable (accounting for 19.64% of total number of times of announcement), 323 times of fish and its products (accounting for 10.23% of total number of times of announcement), 308 times for nuts and its products (accounting for 9.76% of total number of times of announcement), 209 times for fodder (accounting for 6.62% of total number of times of announcement) and 205 times for diet food and special food (accounting for 6.46% of total number of times of announcement).
