Japan Revised Implementation Rules of Food Hygiene Law and Additive Standards

On July 29, 2015, Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare (MHLW) released SAF 0972 No. 2 Announcement to revise implementation rules of food hygiene law as well as food and additive standards. The mainly revised contents contain: (1) whereas the existing or breeding microorganism in raw materials have been sterilized by sterilization, and the effective is equal to that of storing below 10℃, the storage temperature requirements for cool beverage except mineral water, frozen fruit beverage and raw material juice; (2) the Salmonella standards and hydrogen sulfide use standards in non-warming meat product, specific warming meat product and warming meat products are revised; (3) according to Item 1, Article 11 of Food Hygiene Law, the use standards of zinc gluconate and calcium gluconate in foods are revised, and the use standards of calcium silicate and silicon dioxide are revised. The announcement takes effect from the releasing date.
