Recently, the government of Republic of Korea issued the amendment draft of Food Hygiene Law. The main content involved is that the administrative punishment can be relieved or exempted according to actual situations when honestly performing food recall obligation by adopting necessary measures. 

The amendment draft firstly regulates recall obligations of dealers regarding food which violated basic obligation of identification, violated obligation of transgenic food identification and violate the obligation of no exaggerating false identification; and regulates that the administrative punishment for operators’ violating identification standards can be reduced or exempted according to actual situations when they adopted necessary measures to honestly perform circulating food recall obligation.

The amendment draft also regulates that the interim specification and standards formulated by director of Food and Drug Safety Department are applicable to chemical synthetic food additives which specification and standards have not been announced.
