Last Thursday, France reported that, it will apply the “opt out” plan approved by EU to ensure that the Ban on Planting Genetically Modified Crops of France will continueto be valid.

The France Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Environment jointly stated that, France has asked the EU Commission to exclude France from the planting plan of some genetically modified corn crops based on the “opt out” plan. France is the largest food manufacturer and exporter of EU.

In March, EU reached an “opt out” plan, allowing individual countries to seek to exclude themselves from any approval request of planting of genetically modified crops or security (genetically modified) varieties approved by EU.
