Cultivated Area of the World’s Genetically Modified Crops Fell for the First Time

Cultivated area of the world’s genetically modified crops fell for the first time in 2015.In the report from International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA) tracking the genetically modified crops, it is the first time for the cultivated area to decrease by 1% since such technology has been commercially promoted for 20 years. It may be due to the cheap market price, resulting in the simultaneous decrease in the cultivated areas for the genetically modified crops and non-GM crops.

However, ISAAA shows in its report that, taking America with the largest scale of genetically modified crops as example, the large-scale biotechnology market is near saturation with minimal space for growth in the future.
