Information provided by the Chairman of Chile Walnut Association, Andrés Rodriguez shows that the rainstorm in Chile in April 2016 was an unprecedented disaster in 65 years, with the rainfall increased by 1900% than that of the normal year. The most influenced by the rain disaster is the walnut industry. Chile Walnut Association estimates that the loss brought by the rainstorm for Chile walnut industry will exceed 100 million dollars. It is mainly because that the heavy rain not only results in 19% reduction of walnut output, but also affects 40% of their quality.
