For the Chinese market,
Chile was entitled to export skin walnut to China in January 2016, and completed
its first show in China’s consumer market in May 2016. Just because the
performance of the California walnut is too outstanding, Chile walnut development
in China is not very smooth. Edmundo Valderrama pointed out that: Currently,
USA California walnut market share left Chile far behind, and it was very
difficult for Chile to reverse the weak situation in a short time. And with
regard to fame, California walnut is more famous than Chile walnut, thus causing
Chinese consumers unwilling to buy Chile walnut at a high price. In addition,
the high tax burden has become a barrier in front of Chile walnut industry,
although Chin and Chile have signed free trade agreement, about 20% of the
value-added tax and relevant taxes and fees shall be paid for Chile walnut
exports, which increases the export cost of walnuts invisibly.
