On Aug. 24th, Australia published a notification (document code G/SPS/N/AUS/394), planning to revise rules and regulations on exported food. These amendments aim to prove that food safety hazards of high risk food have been preventatively controlled by food safety management systems, to verify supervision systems of food safety outside Australia and traceability of food, and to protect the health of Australian consumers by strengthening the capabilities of identifying, responding to and managing food safety risks, keeping the records of food safety supply chain and extending handheld orders. Besides, the revised version is in tune with the principles of “Food Import Control System” and “Codex Alimentarius”. “Imported food will continue to meet the same food safety standards” refers to the procedural requirements stipulated in “Food Import Control System” and “Codex Alimentarius” by the World Health Organization (WHO). This notification will valid for six months since the day it was published.
