Information from Mozambique’s Cashew Nut Research
Institute shows that Nampula, which is in the north of Mozambigue, has 14
million cashew nut trees. However, because of lack of funds, only 15% of them,
which is nearly 2,5 million, have been sprayed with pesticide. Mildew and other
plant diseases and insect pests are killed out for the rest cashew nut trees by
manual pruning and removing.
Cashew nut production of Nampula reaches 44 thousand tons
last year and it is expected to be 45 thousand tons this year. Most cashew nuts
in Nampula are processed by local cashew nut processors.
