SAMAC recently updated the last round of
data about macadamia nuts output in South Africa in 2016. The updated data shows the output in 2016 harvest period is 38500t (1.5%
water content). The data is 2000t higher than the 36500t predicted in the
previous round.
Based on the expansion
speed of the industry in the past five years, the macadamia fruit output in
South Africa in 2016 will be 50500t.
Data shows, 66% macadamia
nuts in 2016 are used for nuts processing, far higher than the 50% earlier,
which means the unshelled macadamia nut export in 2016 dropped greatly. The quantity of
macadamia nuts used in nuts processing increases 10%, from 23840t to about
25470t by prediction, leading to short in supply to unshelled macadamia markets
including China.
