YUNUS MAHOMED, the
Chairman of Mozambique Cashew Nuts Association, said recently that Mozambique’s
allowing export of raw cashew nuts threats raw nuts supply of local processing
enterprises. As reported by Izvestia,
buyers from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh directly bought raw cashew nuts from
farmers in Mozambique in the harvest season, and the price they offered is
higher than that provided by local processing enterprises, causing unbalanced
market and unfair competition. Since cashew nut export needs 19% import surtax,
some cashew exporters made false declaration of export item name, and caused large
amount tax erosion.
Max Tonela,
Mozambique’s Minister of Industry and Trade, said when responding to call of
cashew nut industry that the Ministry of Industry and Trade will carefully
study and find solution with Ministry of Agriculture and Food Safety.
