According to USDA World Agricultural Production, 2016/17 sunflower seeds output in Russia expects to reach the new record, 10.5 Million ton, increasing 1.3 Million ton than that in the previous year, and 700,000t higher than the record created in 2013/14.

In the past decade, Volga took the place of the south region and became the top sunflower seeds output region in Russia. Since 2007, the planting area in Volga doubled. In four out of the past five years, the outputs in Volga have surpassed the south area. In 2016, Volga became the top producing area again.
