After the discussions at the Wednesday regular meeting, the Thailand cabinet decided to open Thailand soybean import market with the term as 3 years. The new resolution will be effective formally from the beginning of 2017. In the meantime, 8 associations and 18 importers obtaining the official import authorization of Thailand are required to purchase preferentially the domestic soybean stock according to the official purchase guide price and then can import the soybean from abroad according to FTA and WTO as well as ACMECS Framework.
The cabinets considered that opening the soybean import not only would not influence the Thailand’s domestic soybean yield and planting industry but also would avail the enterprise’s cost pressure. It is reported that the total soybean yield of the whole country in Thailand is only 50,000 tons and the total import amount of the whole year is up to 2,600,000 tons. The domestic yield only occupies 2% of the total import amount.
