Mexican Nut Yield Creates New High and Pecan Export Wins First Globally

According to the statistics of Mexican Ministry of Agriculture, the Mexican nut (Nuez) yield of the period from January to October 2016 was 38,660 tons with the year-on-year growth as 82.7%.Major nut production areas included Chihuahua (17,630 tons), Sonora (9,820 tons), Coahuila (4,830 tons) and Nuevo Leon (2,940 tons).The Mexican nut harvest seasons are November and December of each year.

In 2015, the Mexican nut yield was 123,000 tons with the production value as about 8,600,000,000 pesos; the nut planting area nationwide was 113,000 hectares; the annual export amount was USD463, 000,000 with the year-on-year growth as 35.4%; there were 19 export markets: America, Canada, Russia, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Columbia, Spain, etc.

Pecan (NuezPacanera) is the most important Mexican nut variety. In 2015, its yield was 40,824 tons, occupying 40% of the global yield, therefore, Mexico is the second largest pecan producing country; its export amount of the whole year was 22738 tons, occupying 56% of the global pecan export trade amount, therefore, Mexico is the first largest pecan export country in the world.
