According to the announcement of Institute for Agricultural Market Studies, the export quantity of Russian sunflower seed oil from September to November, 2016 reached the record-breaking 450,000 tons, over 80% growth compared to that of the sample period last year. Furthermore, this index is 21% higher than the export quantity of the period from September 2013 to August 2014.

According to the data of Russian Ministry of Agriculture, the sunflower harvest area as of December 9, 2016 was 7,100,000 hectares, occupying 95.3% of the entire sowing area; the quantity of the sunflower harvested was 11,300,000 tons with an 18% growth compared to that of last year; the yield increased from 14.8ql per hectare to 15.8ql per hectare.

The record-breaking yield also drives the export growth.

Under the condition of short supply of global vegetable oil, Russia has increased the supply quantity of sunflower seed oil to China. In the wake of India and EU, China has become the third largest vegetable oil importing country in the world with the percentage of 11%.In addition, Turkey and Egypt are also the major buyers of Russian sunflower seed oil.

The quantity of the sunflower seed oil exported by Russia in 2015-2016 agricultural year was 1,500,000 tons. According to the prediction of Institute for Agricultural Market Studies, the export quantity of the sunflower seed oil in this agricultural year may increase to 1,900,000 tons while the export quantity of all vegetable oils will reach about 3,000,000 tons.
