After the good
harvest during 2016/17, the global sunflower seed output in this year may
increase slightly. The 2017/18 sunflower seed output is expected to reach 46.1
million ton, and the number is 45.6 million ton in comparison. The output
increase in Russia, European Union and Argentine will offset output reduction
in Ukraine. Since sunflower seed supply keeps stable, the global trade may be
stabilized to the level in this year.
Ukraine sunflower
seeds planting area in 2017/18 may not keep the trend of stable growth in past
ten years. Ukraine sunflower seeds planting area in 2017/18 may slightly reduce
to 6million ha.
As restricted by
increasing planting costs, the growing trend of sunflower seed sowing area in
Russia in 2017/18 may stop. However, due to increase of per unit area yield,
the output of sunflower seeds in 2017/18 may increase by 1%, reaching 11
million ton.
The output of
sunflower seeds in EU in 2017/18 may increase by 3%, reaching 8.6 million ton
due to slight increase of planting area in Romania and Bulgaria.
By contrast, the
sunflower seed import demand of Turkey is large, and will offset import
decrease of EU.
