As predicted by the United States Department of Agriculture, US pecan output in 2016/17 (October 2016- September 2017) will reach 262.7 million pounds (shelled), increasing 3% than the previous season. It is learned that improvement of pecan varieties is the direct cause of increased output. The popularizing rate of the improved variety in US has reached 91%.

Due to increased output in this season, large amount inventory in the previous season and vast import volume in the beginning of this year, the pecan supply in US market in 2016/17 is sufficient, which may lead to price falling. The demand of international market for US pecans, especially shelled US pecans is still strong.
