Tanzania Daily News reported on July 2 that the Tanzanian Government plans
to build cashew processing plants in Mukuranga, Mtwara and Tunduru to avoid export
unprocessed products or products with insufficient added value, and create
employment.
Cashew nuts are deemed as a kind of important crop with higher economic performance, and may become one of the major crops in sub-Saharan Africa. Tanzania produces 260,000t cashew every year, and will produce 300,000t next quarter, creating about 80,000 job posts. According to data in the previous quarter, India, China and Vietnam are the largest importers of Tanzanian cashew nuts. The price is 4000Tanzanian Shilling per kg except domestic transportation and storage costs.
