The 40th Conference of Codex
Alimentarius Commission (CAC) will be held on July 17 through July 22 in Geneva.
CAC was founded in 1963 by United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization
(FAO) and World Health Organization (WHO). Attending members will consider passing
a series of new international food standards to protect health of consumers and
promote fair food trade.
FAO and WHO released a notification that over 600 representatives from
120 countries will gather in Geneva to participate in the 40th
Conference of CAC. They will make suggestions on and discuss 50 international
standards on food safety and over 30 new jobs, and upgrade texts of existing
code.
“CAC” also passed on edition and amendment of Norms of Nutrition Labeling, including
revision of nutrition reference values of VD and VE, and approval of draft
about “Work Standards for Rice Arsenic Pollution Prevention and Reduction”. In
addition, according to 2014-2019 Strategic Plan, CAC will review a series of
new proposals, including maximum methyl mercury in fish, amend Work Standards
for Maximal Reduction and Control over Antimicrobial Resistance, codes for
analysis of inadvertent low level chemical risk analysis, work code on
reduction of refined oil and chemical pollutant in relevant products, and
revise Standards for Specific Vegetable Oil, involving walnut oil, almond oil,
hazelnut oil, pistachio oil, linseed oil and avocado oil.
