Malaya Business Insight reported on
July 20 that corn is the most important feed grain in the Philippines. In 2016,
the Philippines imported 718,000t corns, increasing 39% year on year. Thailand
is the most important source country of corns for the Philippines, accounting
for 77% of total import; followed by America, accounting 11%. Argentina and
Brazil respectively comes the Third and Fourth. As the High Court of Justice
relieved the ban on transgenic crops field test, and as encouraged by good news
of incoming laws and decrees, the corn yield of 2017/18 in the Philippines is
expected to reach 8.3mt. With improvement of domestic corn output and
declination of international market price of fodder wheat, the corn import in
2017/2018 may reduce to 100,000-500,000t.
