Vietnam is the world’s largest cashew exporter. According to
the report of Vietnam Macadamia Association, Vietnams will import 500000t raw
cashew nuts additionally to meet its annual export target from now to October.
The report said due to unseasonal rain in
Vietnam, the output of Vietnamese cashew in 2016/17 is reduced. The local
cashew output may not meet local processing demands. Without supplementation of
imported raw cashews, the Vietnam cashew industry cannot realize export
objective of 360000ton dry cashew nuts.
Currently, two thirds nuts of the cashew
nut industry in Vietnam are imported.
Data of Vietnamese customs department
shows in the first half year, Vietnam imported about 400000t raw cashew from
Africa to make up insufficient domestic supply; while in the first year of
2017, Vietnam exported 165000ton cashew, worth of USD 1.62 billion, increasing
2.3% than the previous year in quantity and increasing 27% in amount.
