Pecans in Sonora state of Mexico are
started harvesting officially, about one week earlier than former years. By the
end of September, pecans of Sonora can be exported to global markets.
Mexico faces low harvest year. Currently,
growers said output in two major producing areas, Sonora and Chihuahua, drops
20% than the previous year.
From the angle of market, Chinese buyers who
are active in former years keep quiet this year due to high price of Mexico
pecans and sufficient inventory. However, growers of Sonora are calm, and have
no intention to reduce the quotation. The quotation of large-size pecans is
still USD7.5.
In the future, the price of Mexico pecan may be lower with large-scale harvest. Since large amount of pecans are started processing, the price of US pecans may greatly affect price of pecans in states such as Chihuahua.
