The output of pistachio nuts in Iran in this year will reach 235000t, 38%
higher than the number, 170000t, last year.
Due to lack of water and soil salinization, Iran loses about 8000-12000
ha. pistachio orchards every year.
Currently, the growing area of pistachio in Iran is 350,000ha., but in
2000, the growing area was over 400,000ha.
Kerman Province in southeast of Iran is the largest pistachio producing area. Once the macadamia output in Kerman accounted for 70% of total output in Iran, but the proportion reduced to 30% due to serious water crisis. Currently, 19 provinces of Iran are growing pistachio, and they almost face the same problem.
