Afghan-Pakistan Border Is Blocked Again, Hindering Export of Afghanistan Pine Nuts

Pine nut trades in South Khost of Afghan complained that Pakistan blocked cross-border trade, and fruits in transporting trucks are decaying.

Pine nut trades in Khost said Pakistan Military blocked border road of AngorAda due to unclear causes, and they have to pay higher tax to border crossing point in Torkham. Pakistan side requires a tax of 100Rupee for pine nuts per kg.

According to official statistics, Afghanistan exported 3500t pine nuts worth of USD 77 million to Pakistan and China. Traders said the price of pine nut per ton in 2016 should be USD22,000. However, as hindered by transportation, the price fluctuation may be large. The pine nuts may be decayed if the transportation route is not open as soon as possible.
