Uruguay Soybean Output May Drop to a 10-Year Record Low

According to Uruguay El Pais reported on April 27, the Uruguay soybean has begun to enter the harvest season and the whole situation is not optimistic although the output reported differs in different areas. Soybean output this year may drop to a record low for nearly a decade.

Because of the bad weather, especially low rainfall at the beginning of this year, many soybeans dead early. At the end of March and early April, rainfall increases too much, leading to excessive moisture of soybean, which will cause high drying cost. In previous years, soybean output reached an average of 2.6 tons per hectare, compared with perhaps 1.6 tons this year. The water content and quality of the harvested soybeans were not satisfactory. Uruguay agricultural production value fell 6.4% in the first quarter on year-on-year basis due to a drag by the soybean industry, even though the stock farming and forestry generally developed well.
