On August 10, 2018, according to the
website of the Safety and Standards
Authority of India, on August 2, the Safety and Standards Authority of India issued an
Announcement to issue the 2018 Amendment to the Food Safety Standards (Enhanced Foods). The contents of
this standard include the general provisions (effective dates, definitions,
etc.), mandatory standards (general principles, micronutrient content
standards, etc.), general regulations (quality requirements, packaging and
labeling, etc.), appendices (edible range and limits of such strengthening
elementslimits as iodine, iron, etc.).
The new regulations will take effect after the official Announcement of the official gazette, and food operators should comply with all the provisions of these regulations by January 1, 2019.
