Panama's Rice and Corn Yields Decreased While Bean Yield Increased This Year

The “Agricultural Survey on Rice, Corn and Beans” recently released by Ricethe National Audit Office of Panama shows that in the 2017-2018 agricultural year, the harvests of rice and corn in Panama had decreased, while the harvest of beans had increased.

In addition, Panama realized a total of 2,560,700 quintals of dry corn kernels in the 2017-2018 agricultural year, a decrease of 9.1% from the 2016-2017 agricultural year at 2,877,000 quintals.

In Panama, the annual yield of beans increased by nearly 30% compared with the previous year (the yield of dried beans increased from 100,000 quintals to 130,700 quintals); as the main production area, Chiriqui, Belaguas, Ngöbe-Buglé, Darien, Panamanian and Herrera provinces, the harvests of beans this year were 98,500 quintals, 9,900 quintals, 4,900 quintals, 3,900 quintals, 3,300 quintals and 3,200 quintals, respectively.
