US Hazel Nuts Output Exceeds 50,000t in 2018, Tariff in Chinese Market Reaches 50%

According to estimate of USDA, the output of hazel yield in 2018 in Oregon will reach 52,000t, which will be the highest level in the history.

The growing area of Barcelona variety is the largest, but that of Enix variety is reducing. It is a quality variety which is easily affected by fusarium wilt of oriental hazel. Now, Oregon has started growing large amount of Jefferson variety, and such special hazel nut is developed by the Oregon State University.

Since most hazel nuts grown in Oregon are exported. With the China-US trade dispute becomes fiercer, China adds 25% tariff for US hazel nuts. This percentage is based on existing 25% tariff. The tariff now is totaling 50%.
