Sergei · Lu Jianing, President of the Far
East Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, believes that,
under the conditions of a Sino-US trade war, Russia may be able to partially replace US agricultural
exports to China.
Lu Jianing expressed,
“Objectively, under the conditions of Sino-US tariff and trade war, Russia
cannot fill all the gaps left by the United States in China’s consumption
demand, but Russia may supply most or certain products in a certain field, and
I am referring first to the export of the agricultural products to China. Of
course, Russia has an objective and great opportunity in this field to
partially fill the gap and partially develop the Sino-Russian cooperation in
agricultural production.”
Lu Jianing pointed out
that, due to Washington’s fault, Sino-US trade and economic relations have
entered a new complex period, and a trade war between the two sides is not good
for anyone.
Sino-US trade talks failed. The United States raised the tariffs on USD 200 billion worth of Chinese goods exported to the United States from 10% to 25% on May 10. Trump ordered on the same day to start the process of levying tariffs on the remaining USD 300 billion worth of Chinese goods exported to the United States that have not yet been taxed. China’s State Council announced on May 13 that it would raise the tariff rate from June 1 on certain of the 60 billion U.S. Goods exported to China that will be subject to a tariff increase in 2018.
