Report released by
Capeco
recently shows the corn export volume of Paraguay from April to June this year
is 148565t, 42670t higher than that (105895t) in the same period of 2018.
As reported by Paraguay’s website “nanduti.com.py”
on July 30, Sonia Tomassone, a foreign trade consultant of Capeco, said the
corn plantation area and output in Paraguay is growing steadily, and domestic
market demand keeps rising. From 2019 to 2020, the corn growing area is 884,000ha.,
and total domestic output of corn will reach 5 million ton.
Tomassone pointed out that in the total
yield of 5 million ton corns in Paraguay, about 2.5-3 million ton is consumed
by domestic market for production of alcohol or for human and animal
consumption. This number is increasing 500,000t than that in the same period
last year, mainly because of growth of household consumption.
Main growing area of corns in Paraguay mainly covers Alto Paraná, Canindeyú,
Itapúa, Caaguazú, San Pedro, Caazapá and Amambay. Tomassone added.
For the export destinations, in the second quarter this year, Brazil is the main export destination of Paraguay’s corns, accounting for 66% of total export volume; followed by Uruguay, accounting for 12%. Other export destinations are Chile, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Germany, totally accounting for 22%.
