As reported by “Light of Myanmar” published on July 27, Myanmar has reached success in
growing black sesames with Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). The
products have been sold to Japan and gained good praise in the Japanese market.
For that, sesame farmland adopting GAP method in Magway in rainy season has
reached 50,000acre, said U Thein Naing, person in charge of Minbu Bureau of
Agriculture.
Japan requires highly for product quality and applies
strict detection technology. It will import more black sesames from Myanmar if
the chemical residue and other indexes comply with local requirements; but the
import is forbidden if chemical residue exceeds relevant indexes.
The indoor treatment rather than open space drying
treatment after sesame harvest may help reduce chemical residue and keep
favorable quality. Scholars of Bureau of Agriculture and Myanmar Sesame Grower’s Association are providing relevant training to farmers,
said farmers in rural area.
U Khin Soe, a
farmer in Magway said “more farmers adopt GAP method to grow sesames. With this
method, the sesames are of high quality and could be exported with good price.
So, the growers are more. I grow 4acre sesames with GAP method this year.”
Last year, 944 farmers in 47 villages of four counties and divisions grew black sesames with GAP method in Magway, and exported 71t sesames to Japan after harvest in 3706 acre farmland, according to the Bureau of Agriculture.
