Tanzania Agriculture Committee Calls to Reduce Fees and Fines for Agricultural Products

As reported by The Citizen, a mainstream media in Tanzania on July 21, recently Ms. Jacqueline, the Director of Tanzania Agriculture Committee pointed out the income from fees and fines collected in 2019-2020 fiscal year is expected to reach 17% of total state fiscal revenue, 9% higher than the 8% six years ago; while in the previous fiscal year, the agriculture production value accounts for over 30% of GDP. The higher fees and fines against agricultural products may bring down the confidence in agricultural field development, and is unfavorable for national economic growth. She called on leaders to focus on key participants of economic activities and enlarge taxes against them so as to add national fiscal revenue rather than adding various fees and fines. She also called for more fund in agricultural field to improve crop yield and promote sustainable development of agriculture.
