The harvest season of California almonds in 2019 comes down in time. In the opening ceremony
of “China
Nuts Health Week” held the other day, Richard Waycott, the CEO of Almond Board
of California, released the latest data of US Ministry of Agriculture: the
almond fruiting area in California in 2019 keeps increasing, about 2.2 billion
lbs (equaling to 997,900t) this year.
“As the major almond producing region in the
world, the Californian almond industry will continuously cooperate with Almond
Board of California, Chinese trade merchants and brand merchants to expand the
Chinese market and provide high quality Californian almonds stably to over 1.3
billion Chinese consumers”, said Richard Waycott in his speech. He is still optimistic about long-term
development of Californian almonds in the Chinese market based on the favorable
trend.
Regardless
of the trade war, from Sept. 1 this year, the tariff of imported unshelled
almonds and almond nuts in the USA is raised from 50% to 60%. Moreover, in the
middle of December, the tariff of canned almonds will be adjusted to 20% from
15%, and of canned non-vinegar pickled from 30% to 40%. Moreover, due to former
twice tariff rises, the almond export volume from California to mainland and
Hong Kong China from August, 2018 to June 2019 dropped 25% (19,000metric ton). On the contrary, due to
the trade war and zero tariff of FTA, the export of Australian almonds to
mainland and Hong Kong China increased 1.352% (26,309 metric
ton) in the same period.
