Tanzanian Government Pays 10 Billion Tanzanian Shillings for Cashews in 2018/2019 Fiscal Year

Tanzanian mainstream media Citizen reported that the Tanzanian government paid 10 billion Tanzanian shillings (approximately USD 4.536 million) of the 31 billion Tanzanian shillings (approximately USD 13.549 million) owed for cashews in the 2018/2019 fiscal year.


Japhet Ngailonga Hasunga, Minister for the Agriculture of Tanzania, pointed out that the Tanzanian government owed 20.421 billion Tanzanian shillings and 11.278 billion Tanzanian shillings to farmers and service providers for cashews procured in the 2018/2019 fiscal year. The Tanzanian government has already paid 10 billion Tanzanian shillings, and pointed out that after verification, the unpaid fees in coastal provinces and other regions will be paid, and the Tanzanian Ministry of Finance will pay the remaining 21 billion Tanzanian shillings according to the government funds. Facing the upcoming 2020/2021 agricultural harvest season, the Tanzanian Minister of Agriculture pointed out that he had instructed the Tanzanian Cashew Committee to solve the problems left over from the previous fiscal year.
