EEU Requires Marking Food with Transgenic Ingredients

Pubtime:2020-07-16Author:Source: Hits:

The transition period for amendment to technical specifications of Food Labeling among members of Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) is ended. The amendment was passed on Dec. 20, 2017 and took effect from Dec. 26, 2018. It involves the labeling method for food made of transgenic ingredients. According to the Amendment, food made of transgenic ingredients must be labeled with “GMO” (abbreviation of genetically modified organisms) beside the unified product circulating sign of EEU with the same shape and size.

If the Manufacturer does not use GMO when producing food and the content is less than 0.9%, the phenomenon will be deemed as occasional or technically inevitable. Such commodities do not belong to food with transgenic ingredients and are unnecessary to label.

Food made of genetically modified organisms without “GMO” sign but with necessary information according to technical specifications of EEU can be circulated within expiration date of such food confirmed by the manufacturer.
