Japan plans to revise its Specifications and Standards for Food Additives

On Aug. 11, 2020, Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare released its amendment draft of Specifications and Standards for Food Additives. Main contents can be seen below:

1. Plan to set specifications of ingredients such as rumput roman extract, wasabi extract, tea extract, elemi resin, liquorice essential oil, enzyme hydrolyzed guar gum, sa-son seed gum, sandalwood red, salt water with low sodium chloride (salt lake), quercetin, heptane, lucid ganoderma extract and colophony.

2. Plan to revise specifications of ingredients such as caramel color III (ammonia process), calcium chloride, peracetic acid preparation, mustard extract, cochineal extract, acetic ether, phytosterones, vegetable tannin, pectin enzyme, ankaflavine, monascorubin, marigold color, shellac pigment, pagoda-tree extracts, L-calcium glutamate.

3. Plan to revise application standards and manufacturing standards of emathlite, kaolin, bentonite, talcum powder, sand, kieselguhr, perlite and similar insoluble mineral substances.
