Mexico Released Newly Revised for Prepackaged Food Labels Manual

On May 24, 2021, Mexico COFEPRIS released a manual to clarify commercial and health information required by prepackaged food and non-alcohol beverage. Main contents of the manual are:

(1) Requirements for common labels

(2) The name of prepackaged products shall be shown on main exhibition face of the label with bold face, and in parallel with the bottom at product design;

(3) The label on prepackaged products sold separately must list ingredients; the list shall start with “Ingredients”. The ingredients of prepackaged food or non-alcohol beverage must be listed according to the order of number of mass/mass (m/m) ratio;

(4) Nutrition label: information printed on nutrition label must be expressed with typeface at least 1.5mm high;

(5) Products free from nutritional information: infants formula milk powder, infant formula milk powder with special nutrition demands, subsequent formula milk powder and subsequent formula milk powder meeting special nutrition demands; vegetable oil, vegetable or animal fat; sugar, honey, iodate and fluoride iodized salt, as well as grain powders.
