Economic Sector Sees 1% Growth of
Agriculture in the Philippines mainly from sugarcane, rice, corn and coconuts.
Economists said in 2021 Mid-year Comprehensive Conference of Food and Agricultural
Enterprises that the agricultural revival this year will be little due to
African Swine Fever, COVID-19 and climate change. The main force of
agricultural growth this year is the support for rice and coconuts. As of July,
the average growth of crops is expected to increase 1-3%, poultry and fishery
increase 1-2% and livestock culture industry reduce 10%. Economists suggest the government should
promote agricultural development plan based on grain safety to predict
development prospect and offset COVID19 impact, apply diversified development
of agriculture, consumption market and taxation, and strengthen reliability of
crop selection, investment and insurance. The Ministry of Agriculture of the
Philippines estimated optimistically that the agricultural growth rate this
year will reach 2.5%, striving to improve agricultural modernization and
industrialization level.
