California, USA, recently suffered
serious drought. California is the main producing area of almonds in the world,
while almonds are now in maturity period when large amount of water resources
are consumed; local almond industry was impacted thus.
Data of USDA shows almond yield in
California reached 168 million kg in 1995, and rose up to 1.4 billion kg by
2020, which is the highest record in the history; the planting area of almond
trees has been expanded to 6500km2 right now from less than 2000km2.
In May, USDA predicts the yield of California almonds will create a new high
record this year, 100 million kg larger than that in the previous year.
Nonetheless, in view of recent high temperature and short water resources, USDA
lowered predicted yield in the previous month to 1.3 billion kg.
