Esteban Cobady, chief analyst at the Buenos Aires Grain
Exchange (BAGE) , Argentina , stated in a webinar that the production of
soybeans in Argentina will increase this year because Weather conditions
improve, but the planting area will be reduced for the sixth consecutive year
because farmers rotate corn
The La Niña
weather that may occur at the end of this year will restrict rainfall, but this
year is expected to be a weaker La Niña
Argentine
soybean planting area in 2021/22 is estimated to be 16.5 million hectares (40.8
million acres), a decrease of 2.4% year-on-year and the lowest area in 15 years.In
Argentina, soybeans were planted at the end of October and harvesting began in
March.
Cobady said that this year farmers
are turning to late sowing corn in order to hedge against dry weather.
Argentine corn
production in 2021/22 will reach a record 55 million tons, ayear-on-year
increase of 8.9%.
This will also be the first time in 20 years that corn production is
expected to exceed soybeans before the start of the planting season.
Cobady also expects wheat production to reach a record 19.2 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 13%.
