On April 14, 2017, the first Nuts Planting Information Exchange and Technology Seminar was held during the 11th China Roasted Seeds and Nuts, Foods & Ingredients, Equipment and Packaging Exhibition.

Over 100 persons including major growers of macadamia nuts, pecans and walnuts, scientific research institutions, universities and colleges, and delegation of Vietnam Nuts Growers attended the meeting.

The meeting is presided over by Chen Yuxiu, the Vice Chairman of CNSA and Tian Ye from ChaCha Foods Co. Ltd.

Weng Yangyang, the Vide Chairman of CNSA made a keynote speech firstly. Weng said this meeting was significant and gained high importance of CNSA because raw materials are not only the source guarantee for development of nuts and roasted seeds industry, but also key point of food safety and quality; secondly, since China has become a great power of nuts and roasted seeds in the world, the raw material demand is large and market demand is larger. Thus our due responsibility is to develop plantation and meet market demands. Therefore, Weng required summarizing experiences and achievements in years, finding out insufficiencies and existing problems, actually proposing effective solutions and programs, improving overall level of nuts growing industry to meet market demands, and pushing sustainable development of nuts and roasted seeds industry in China. CNSA would spare no effort to serve everyone.

Next, ChaCha Foods, Yunnan Macadamia Association, Yunnan Academy of Forestry, Guangxi South Subtropical Agricultural Science Research Institute, Guangxi Nuts Industry Association, and Shaanxi Datong Investment Corporation Limited respectively released domestic improved variety breeding, scientific plantation, output, quality and development trend of nuts varieties such as Macadamia nuts, pecans and walnuts introduced to China.

Through the releases, the attendants knew China has gained outstanding achievements in nuts plantation after 20 years’ sustainable development. According to incomplete statistics, the nationwide planting area of nuts has reached 32.5million mu. Among varieties, the output of walnuts keeps ranking world the first for years, and has acquired favorable performance in foreign quality variety introduction, domestic breeding and promotion, and variety promotion and scientific plantation. Meanwhile, many insufficiencies exist, such as low fruiting rate, different quality and extensive plantation.

Attendants warmly discussed and deeply communicated about aforesaid problems, and common topics worried and concerned, such as difficult prediction of nuts market situation, price and output, and failure to guide the plantation due to remote plantation area of nuts and delayed information transmission. Moreover, the growers are not self-disciplined enough. Some rushed in the harvest and purchase during the harvest period, leading to low quality and common phenomenon of price bulling.

To better solve aforesaid problems, and effectively help and improve overall nuts plantation level in China, attendants offered the following suggestions on consensus:

1. To convene market information exchange and technology seminar for nuts plantation and raw material purchase regularly every year;

2. The industrial association shall organize to formulate Self-Discipline Commitment Convention for growers to abide by consciously.
